Mercury Vapor Released From Broken Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs and Curly Light Bulbs (CLFs) Can Exceed Safe Exposure Levels.
Once broken, a compact fluorescent light bulb, curly light bulb, CLFs (energy efficient) continuously releases mercury vapor into the air for weeks to months, and the total amount can exceed safe human exposure levels in a poorly ventilated room, according to study results reported in Evironmental Engineering Science.
The EPA in the United States, have stated if you break a light bulb the mercury vapor is released. You need to leave your home or office for 1/2 hour until the vapor's are neutralized. Once the vapor's are neutralized then you can enter to clean the broken mercury light bulb with gloves.
